Laredo, TX. – Today, immigrant youth of United We Dream Action (UWDA) announced their endorsement of Jessica Cisneros for Texas Congressional District 28. This becomes the first Congressional endorsement of a primary challenger from immigrant youth this cycle.
Jessica Cisneros is running to challenge Henry Cuellar, a Trump Democrat, who has held this seat since 2005. In addition to voting with Trump 70% of the time, he has also received donations from the NRA, GEO Group and private prison companies.
Adrian Reyna, Strategy Director of United We Dream Action, said:
“We are proud to endorse Jessica Cisneros for Congress. Jessica is the daughter of Mexican immigrants and an immigration attorney, and has witnessed first-hand the pervasive ways our immigration system is meant to keep people in jails and out of the country. She has committed both to a pathway to citizenship for undocumented people living in the United States, and also to undo the racist laws that have led to a growing deportation force.
Jessica Cisneros is a much needed departure from Henry Cuellar, who in addition to taking money from companies that run for-profit prisons and immigration detention centers, has time and again voted to continue funding Trump’s mass deportation agenda.
Jessica Cisneros will be a champion for immigrants in Texas and across the country, which is why United We Dream Action is enthusiastically endorsing her to bring new leadership to Texas’ 28th congressional district and to Congress.”
