Washington, D.C. – Today, in a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court ruled to lift an injunction placed on the Trump administration’s revised public charge rule. With this ruling, the Supreme Court is directly supporting Trump’s white supremacist agenda: an agenda that attacks poor, working class people and people of color.

Sanaa Abrar, Advocacy Director of United We Dream Action, said:

“Today, justice was not served by the Supreme Court in favor of poor and working class immigrants and people of color. Trump’s goal for the entirety of his presidency has been to attack, jail, and deport immigrants and the revised public charge is another way to reach his goal.

This ruling is an attempt to disenfranchise and punish millions of immigrant families, including poor and working class families, for accessing programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, and housing vouchers.

It is imperative that the next president commit to repealing this cruel and unnecessary public charge rule on day one of their presidency.

In addition to repealing the rule upon taking office, we call on all candidates to publicly  commit to supporting our Free To Move, Free To Stay platform, which would seek to break down barriers to access to healthcare, education, and housing benefits for all people regardless of immigration status.”
