UWDA is proud to endorse Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and a progressive vision that will get our community closer to liberation

Washington, D.C. – Today in a historic first, United We Dream Action (UWDA) announced our endorsement of Senator Elizabeth Warren and Senator Bernie Sanders in the 2020 Democratic Presidential Primary, just days away from Super Tuesday.

Earlier this month, UWDA released our Presidential Primary Endorsement Process, which outlined how defeating white nationalism, centering the voices of directly impacted people, and pushing our Free to Move, Free To Stay platform were top considerations and priorities in this endorsement decision.

Both Warren and Sanders support the key provisions of the Free to Move, Free to Stay platform, such as: shutting down for-profit detention camps, shrinking the budgets for ICE & CBP, stopping and reviewing deportations within the first 100 days, issuing executive orders to protect immigrants, and supporting legislation that provides a pathway to citizenship without provisions that hurt immigrants.

Cristina Jiménez, Executive Director & Co-Founder of United We Dream Action, said:

“This election is the fight of our lives. This year, for the first time ever, United We Dream Action is proud to endorse both Senator Elizabeth Warren and Senator Bernie Sanders for president of the United States. Both candidates rise far above the rest in their vision and readiness to deliver on our Free to Move, Free To Stay platform for change.

They are committed to shutting down for profit detention camps right away, shrinking the budgets for ICE & CBP,  stopping and reviewing deportations in the first 100 days, issuing executive orders to protect immigrants, dismantling the racist enforcement machine and supporting legislation that provides a pathway to citizenship without provisions to hurt immigrants.

While we believe both Warren and Sanders would move us much closer to making our platform a reality than their fellow candidates, our endorsement is not a decision to become a fanclub of any candidates. It is a decision to help our communities interpret the choices before them and to advance our platform for justice. We know that achieving the solutions we deserve requires a strong independent political movement ready to hold our next president accountable to deliver.

United We Dream Action is committed to building an independent political movement to win justice for all people and will hold any and every politician accountable to stopping deportations and ensuring immigrants and people of color can live safely and thrive.”
