Washington, D.C.  – Today, immigrant youth of United We Dream Action (UWDA) are proud to announce our endorsement of Jamaal Bowman for NY-16, which includes parts of the Bronx and Westchester. Bowman is running to unseat incumbent Rep. Eliot Engel – who has spent more than 30 years growing the pockets of his corporate donors and neglecting his constituents.

Cristina Jimenez, Executive Director and Co-Founder of United We Dream Action, said:

“We are proud to endorse Jamaal Bowman for Congress. Jamaal has demonstrated a firm commitment to fighting for justice and dignity for people of color and immigrants, while fighting to defund institutions that are rooted in racism and white supremacy. He is committed to delivering on our Free To Move, Free To Stay platform for immigrant justice and we look forward to working with him to bring progressive leadership to Congress.

Jamaal believes in putting the interest of the people ahead of the interests of the 1% and corporations. He is committed to dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline, ending private detention and private prisons, and investing in healthcare and education. He will be a champion for racial  justice, Medicare for All, and a Green New Deal.

Today’s UWDA endorsement means that we are putting the needs of the people at the forefront, because we know that those closest to the pain are those with the solutions, innovations and breakthroughs. Personally, I am proud to cast my vote for Jamaal this upcoming Tuesday, June 23 and I’d be proud to call him my Congressman.”

Diana Sanchez, United We Dream Action Member, said:

“This election is the fight of our lives and immigrants and people of color need a leader in Washington D.C. whose values, passion, and vision match up with ours. I’ve lived most of my life in Yonkers and I have experienced first hand the issues that impact our community.

We need a Member of Congress who will fight alongside immigrants and communities of color to stop deportations that tear apart our communities and stop the prison-to-deportation pipeline that hurts Black and brown people.”
