Washington, D.C. – Today, United We Dream Action launched the Here To Stay Squad, a new network of immigrant young people who’ll volunteer to mobilize voters to get Trump and his Republican anti-immigrant enablers out of office this November.
Yesterday, Trump announced his latest attack to dismantle DACA, and has made it clear that he won’t stop attacking immigrants and their families. An estimated 2.5 million U.S. citizens live with a DACA eligible immigrant, and the Here To Stay Squad will be reaching out to those voters and more to win permanent protections for all 11 million undocumented people living in this country.
Juanita A. Monsalve, Senior Marketing & Creative Director of United We Dream Action, said:
“Yesterday’s attack on DACA holders is part of Trump’s continued attacks on immigrants and people of color. By limiting DACA renewals from two years to one, it’s clear Trump is trying to make it easier to deport more and more young people, should he win reelection in November. We aren’t going to let that happen.
Trump is responsible for the deaths of over 150,000 people due to his inaction on COVID-19, and has unleashed highly-militarized violence against Black and brown people. There’s a lot of uncertainty right now, but immigrant young people are fired up. Many can’t vote, but they know millions of people who can and through their volunteer efforts they will engage these voters. These voters are their siblings, spouses, friends, neighbors and co-workers. These voters are formerly undocumented people who can vote now, like me. Getting Trump out of office is just the first step. This is about building the future our communities deserve. Our community is strong, and we have countless allies and accomplices. Just like at the Supreme Court, we can and will defeat Trump again. We can only do that if we come together, fierce and filled with the fire for liberation.”
