Washington, D.C. – Today, Trump suggested in a tweet that the November election should be delayed.
Cristina Jimenez, Executive Director & Co-Founder of United We Dream Action, said:
“Trump does not have the power to delay the election. But we must all take his tweet as a serious threat to our democracy. Trump has shown us time and time again that he believes he can do whatever he wants, including tearing children apart from their parents and putting them in cages, he can defy the Supreme Court on the DACA case, he can send federal troops to cities to kidnap protestors, and now he will attempt to violate people’s right to vote.
We must stay vigilant and come together to defend our democracy, and fight against Trump’s tactics to create fear in our communities. Voting by mail is necessary in order to ensure that people remain safe and can exercise their right to vote during the COVID-19 pandemic.
United We Dream Action is doubling down on our effort to engage voters in the election and endorse candidates committed to our Free to Move, Free To Stay platform. We call on you now to join the effort to vote out Trump and his enablers this November. We are ready.”
