Washington, D.C. – Today, several members from United We Dream Action were among the 51 people arrested while taking action outside of the White House to demand President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats in Congress deliver citizenship for millions this year.

Roughly 500 immigrants and allies from CASA, NAKASEC Action Fund, FIRM, United We Dream Action, CPDA, Communities United for Status and Protection, and others took part in the sit-in outside the White House urging Democrats to commit to passing citizenship in the reconciliation package by any means necessary.  The escalated action showed the urgency of the moment – without citizenship, millions of undocumented immigrants will be left to the grips of ICE and CBP.

Gabriel Madison, United We Dream Action member said:

“I took part in the civil disobedience today to remind President Biden and Vice President Harris why I voted for them in 2020. I voted for the first time because I wanted leaders who would do the right thing and I didn’t want my immigrant loved ones to live in fear of detention and deportation anymore. I believe that our freedom is tied to one another, and while immigrants are held back, none of us are truly free. It’s important to me that U.S. citizens use our privilege at this time to continue pressuring Democrats.

The will of the voters is clear, we say no to more detention and deportations, and yes to citizenship for millions. We are demanding Democrats deliver citizenship in the reconciliation package, no excuses.”
