A new Data For Progress Poll indicates that voters in Nevada want Democrats to move forward with citizenship, instead of following arcane Senate procedures

Las Vegas – A new poll of likely Nevada voters by Data for Progress shows strong support for including immigration provisions–and particularly a path to citizenship–in the Build Back Better package. The results come as yesterday, the Senate parliamentarian, an unelected advisor, suggested immigration protections not be included in the reconciliation process. Immigrant youth, families and allies from United We Dream Action and Make the Road Action Nevada are clear that the parliamentarian’s suggestion is wrong and that Democrats hold all the power to disregard her and deliver citizenship for millions.

Today’s poll is timely in that it shows most likely Nevada voters want immigration to be included, regardless of rules and procedures. While Nevada voters broadly support immigration provisions in Build Back Better, they are more enthusiastic about 2022 candidates who support a pathway to citizenship.

Some of the key findings of the poll include:

  • Likely voters in Nevada support a pathway to citizenship by a +39-point margin (67 percent support, 28 oppose).
  • A majority of Nevada voters indicate they would be more likely to vote for a candidate for Congress who supports including a path to citizenship in Build Back Better by a +21-point margin (52 percent more likely, 31 percent less likely).
  • Nevada voters are hungry for action from Congress. More Nevada voters believe that lawmakers should focus on passing bills to solve important problems (50%) than those who prefer Congress remain wedded to established rules and procedures (38%).
  • More than 90 percent of Democrats and 72 percent of Independents support immigration reforms that include a pathway to citizenship.
  • Latinx voters in Nevada also strongly support immigration reforms by a +67-point margin.

Rico Ocampo, Immigration Organizer of Make the Road Action Nevada, said:

“Nevada voters want a path to citizenship in the Build Back Better Act. Regardless of the parliamentarian’s recommendation last night, the data shows that a bipartisan majority of Nevadans support permanent solutions for the hundreds of TPS, and DACA holders, and other essential workers who have courageously stepped up and kept us going during the pandemic Senate Democrats have a responsibility to use their power to deliver on immigration and keep their promise to millions of immigrant families. Our communities elected them into the majority, now is the time for bold leadership.”

Bruna Sollod, Senior Communications and Political Director of United We Dream Action, said:

“Nevadans, like a majority of people across the country, know that we are in a defining moment to finally provide long-needed permanent relief to millions of immigrants and they don’t care about the parliamentarian. They just want to see progress being made. Right now, Democrats have all the power to deliver for immigrant communities and the millions of Americans who know and love someone who is undocumented. As the poll shows, likely voters in Nevada are enthusiastic about candidates who support broad permanent solutions for immigrants. These are the same voters that Democrats will need in order to keep control of the House and the Senate in the 2022 midterm elections. Not delivering on promises has repercussions, not only on the lives of millions of people, but on elections as well. We are unapologetic about pushing Democrats to follow through on their promises to deliver citizenship no matter what.”
