Texas – Today, voting results in the Texas 35th congressional district primary race showed UWDA-endorsed progressive, pro-immigrant candidate Greg Casar as the clear winner. In just the two weeks leading up to the primary, immigrant youth of United We Dream Action sent nearly 10,000 texts and made nearly 3,000 calls to TX-35 voters in support of Greg Casar.
Michelle Ming, Political Director of United We Dream Action, said:
“The progressive movement in Texas is stronger than ever before. United We Dream Action is proud to have worked with a broad coalition of progressive partners to position Greg Casar as the clear winner in this race, and we are thrilled to continue engaging young TX-35 voters in the general election.
Greg Casar’s resounding victory in the primary is a sign that in the face of egregious and widespread voter suppression, young people and people of color’s electoral power cannot be silenced or ignored. Candidates in Texas can run and win on a progressive, pro-immigrant policy platform. Other Democrats should take note: moderation will not save our communities, nor will it save you come election time. We demand bold action. Over the years, Black, brown and immigrant young people have built power across movements to protect each other against Republicans’ ongoing anti-Black and anti-LGBTQ attacks. Greg Casar has listened to our demands and shown time and again that he is ready to follow our leadership and fight alongside us to create a just future where our humanity, dignity, and rights are centered.”
