Washington, D.C. – Following the Biden administration’s recent announcement that it will end the evil Trump-era Title 42 policy that has denied approximately 1.7 million people their right to seek asylum, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that state troopers would immediately bus asylum seekers to Washington D.C. Today, the first group of migrants was bussed from Texas to D.C., dropping them off in front of the Fox News headquarters.

Greisa Martinez Rosas, Executive Director of United We Dream Action, said:

“People fleeing economic instability, political strife, climate change, and overall uncertainty and seeking safety in the U.S. are human beings in need of compassion. Unfortunately, Texas Governor Greg Abbott is using their lives as part of a calculated and desperate political stunt meant to further sow anti-immigrant hate and division among communities across the country. All the while, his Republican allies across the country continue to spread xenophobic and racist lies through racialized misinformation about Black, brown, and immigrant communities. Rather than use state resources to support migrants who need access to transportation to reunite with loved ones in the U.S., Abbott intentionally chose Washington D.C., and the Fox News headquarters more specifically, in an attempt to further the racist right-wing media narratives which have contributed greatly to the lies and disinformation about the families and communities seeking refuge here.

Title 42 is an evil policy that has denied approximately 1.7 million people their legal and moral right to seek asylum and must end now! Regardless of whatever political, anti-immigrant stunts Abbott and his fellow Republican allies attempt, we know the truth: We have more than enough resources to welcome all who seek asylum with dignity, humanity, and respect. It’s time to end the evils of Title 42 and demand state and federal resources are invested in ensuring that all who seek asylum here can do so with loved ones and without further harm.”
