New York – Today, United We Dream Action (UWDA) announced the endorsement of an unflinching pro-immigrant champion, Ana María Archila, for Lieutenant Governor of New York. With over 20 years of progressive grassroots advocacy experience and as a directly-impacted Colombian immigrant herself, UWDA is confident in Ana María’s ability to deliver for all New Yorkers, regardless of immigration status.
Michelle Ming, Political Director of United We Dream Action, said:
“United We Dream Action is so proud to endorse Ana María Archila for Lieutenant Governor of New York. Ana María is one of us. As a Colombian immigrant, queer woman of color, and progressive advocate with decades of experience organizing to protect immigrant communities, she will listen to our communities and raise their needs to find impactful solutions. She is the right person to hold the second most powerful position in the state of New York. If we want to make sure our people are paid a living wage, can afford health care coverage, and can live without fear of being brutalized by the police, we need Ana María as Lieutenant Governor.
UWDA is committed to lifting up pro-immigrant champions at all levels of office. To be a pro-immigrant champion means having an intersectional understanding of the immigrant experience, beyond words and promises that never come to pass. New York has one of the highest immigrant populations in the nation and given Ana María’s history and understanding of the intersectional lives of immigrants, we know she will fight furiously for our community’s right to thrive. With continued economic relief and increased health care access on the line, there is too much at stake to not be engaged in this upcoming election. UWDA is ready to mobilize millions of voters this spring and fall and affirm our collective power to ensure the right of all people, regardless of immigration status, to access health care, in-state tuition, and COVID relief.”
