Washington, DC — United We Dream Action is proud to endorse a group of six badass, pro-immigrant champions to ensure they return to Congress to continue delivering on the needs of our community.
Immigrants have faced relentless political attacks and been the center of constant uncertainty for far too long. But our communities remain unfazed in their determination and commitment to win permanent protections that ensure we can all thrive. Being a pro-immigrant champion is talking the talk, and walking the walk. Our true pro-immigrant champions get it – they have an intersectional understanding of the immigrant experience. In order to advance our long term goals we need to keep these pro-immigrant champions fighting alongside us in Congress.
At the core of our 2022 campaign is the belief that if we fail to intervene, transform and empower Latinx youth, people of color, and other high-potential voters in the midterms, far-right candidates will take power and pass policies that go after our communities, and so-called “moderate” Democrats will fail to protect us.
That is why UWDA is reaching out and mobilizing millions of youth voters, Latinx voters, and other voters of color through calls, texts, and a layered digital and social media program to empower them with tools to defend their friends and neighbors. Together, we will defend our victories and elect progressive champions to Congress, including:
Raul Grijalva (AZ-7) Pramila Jayapal (WA-7)
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) Ilhan Omar (MN-5)
Ayanna Pressley (MA-7) Rashida Tlaib (MI-12)
Michelle Ming, Political Director of United We Dream Action, said:
“Some politicians are happy with the status quo – putting the best interests of a wealthy few above our collective wellbeing. But we aren’t backing down, we’re fighting for progress! That’s why we’re endorsing a group of badass, pro-immigrant champions who will work with us on the issues that matter most to our communities, not sell us out for political gain. Brave Black and brown organizers fought for decades to get us this far, and we’ll continue pushing forward in the face of daily attacks from white supremacist forces. From limiting people’s access to abortion todenying immigrants a pathway to citizenship, our opposition is clear and relentless about attacking the wellbeing of working people, young people, immigrants, and Black and brown people. We need to have pro-immigrant champions who have an intersectional understanding of the immigrant experience in Congress fighting alongside us.
We know how to win. From passing concrete policies that help us without hurting us, to getting voters to the polls and holding elected officials accountable. When we show up for each other we can make the impossible inevitable. We are excited to continue winning alongside these champions.”
