Washington, D.C. – Last night, President Biden and Trump participated in their first debate of the 2024 election season, where Trump took to the stage to spew lies and anti-immigrant rhetoric. During the debate, Trump laid out his playbook to continue attacking individual freedoms and embracing white supremacy and fascism if he were to win a second term.

“Last night, Trump doubled-down on his intentions to strip millions of people of our rights and freedoms and sow violence in carrying out the promises of Project 2025. In response, President Biden was unable to go on the offensive and call out Trump’s violent anti-immigrant rhetoric and policies. President Biden and Democrats cannot risk a single instance of losing ground to Trump’s fascist playbook between now and November. We know the cruel and violent nature of Trump’s actions having lived through a MAGA presidency once. Over the coming weeks, President Biden and Democrats must seize every opportunity to show the American public –through words and most importantly, action– that they are committed to delivering expansive and strengthened protections for millions.
Young people especially are feeling the magnitude of this year’s election and the threat against our lives. Yet, in the face of this unmistakable rise in fascist, white supremacist policies, Black and brown youth nationwide have courageously taken action to win life-saving protections for our loved ones and build progressive, pro-immigrant futures where our needs, rights and safety are prioritized. For Democrats hoping to secure the growing electoral power of young voters of color this year, know that you must be ready to stand up for our communities and deliver big for our generations on the issues we care about in the months to come. We know that our home is here and we will continue to shape our futures at the polls.”
