Phoenix, AZ – Today, Raquel Terán, a pro-immigrant, pro-choice champion and candidate for Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District, lost her primary election by only 39 votes. Earlier this year, United We Dream Action endorsed Terán whose bold, people-centered campaign demonstrated her unwavering commitment to being a champion for all communities, including for immigrants, and the issues we care most about. The Terán campaign fought tirelessly for our communities in Arizona, and ran on a platform focused on education, healthcare and keeping our families together.
Bruna Sollod, Senior Political Director of United We Dream Action, said:
“Raquel Terán’s devastating loss is a stark reminder to us all that every single vote matters and that elections up and down the ballot this year will be won in the margins. This moment must fuel us to continue to organize with even more tenacity to get out the vote and protect our freedoms to move, live, stay, and thrive in the places we call home, from Arizona to Texas, Colorado, Florida and more.
Raquel Terán’s commitment to fighting for the rights and freedoms of everyone in our communities –including the freedom to make decisions about our own bodies– demonstrates the resonance of progressive policies and the standard of leadership that young people across the country demand of every single one of our elected officials this year and beyond. Our communities understand the stakes we’re up against this year and the existential threat Trump, his allies, and the violent plans of Project 2025 pose to our lives and futures. We are ready to rise to the challenge and ensure the issues that matter most to us are front and center in every candidate’s mind. We will not stop fighting until our voices are heard.”
