Washington, D.C. – Last week, the Trump administration announced plans to create a nationwide registry to track and target undocumented immigrants. Trump is threatening those who don’t register, including children, with imprisonment and heavy fines. This unprecedented scheme would force immigrants as young as 14 to hand over personal data and fingerprints or risk being jailed indefinitely.
Greisa Martinez Rosa, Executive Director at United We Dream Action, said:
“Donald Trump’s registry is nothing less than an authoritarian assault on our communities. Let’s be clear: this scheme isn’t about public safety – it’s about terrorizing immigrants. We’ve seen dark chapters in history where governments create registries to persecute people; it is shameful and dangerous that Trump is taking America down that path. Trump is effectively trying to criminalize the very existence of immigrants.
Trump and his allies may be doubling down on their white supremacist, anti-immigrant agenda, but we are doubling down on our resistance. We will not stand by as our neighbors, friends, and loved ones are targeted and threatened with incarceration. United We Dream Action and immigrant youth nationwide are mobilizing to fight back. We call on every elected official – from city councils to Congress – to speak out about this hateful registry. Now is the time for moral courage: stand with immigrant families or be complicit in Trump’s terror. Our message is simple – we oppose every attempt to round up, intimidate, and abduct people in our communities, and we call on public officials to speak out against Trump’s plan.”
