545 children remain separated from their parents, the horrendous result of Trump’s cruel zero-tolerance family separation policy
Washington, D.C. – Today, Joe Biden vowed to sign an executive order on day one of his administration creating a task force that would reunite the 545 children still separated from their families and whose parents cannot be found due to Trump’s cruel “zero-tolerance” policy.
Trump’s policy, which began in 2017 and resulted in over 5,500 children ripped from their parents, was an intentional attack by him and other top officials in his administration to inflict harm and deter immigrant families from seeking a life and future in the U.S.

“Biden’s promise to reunite immigrant families is a welcomed preview of a President who will lead with empathy and humanity. This is a stark contrast from Trump who has a ‘drawer full’ of executive orders at the ready to cause more pain for immigrants. Biden’s announcement is a direct testament to the power of immigrant youth and allies who have been demanding accountability for the pain and trauma our communities have endured under Trump that no one should ever have to experience.
I’m casting my first presidential vote for Joe Biden because, under his administration, immigrant youth will continue to push forward our demands and hold the administration accountable to the promises it’s already made, such as stopping deportations and moving on a pathway to citizenship for the over 11 million undocumented people within the first 100 days. We will demand a moratorium on deportations, a COVID-19 relief package that includes all immigrant communities, and the end of ICE and CBP as we know it. This is only the beginning, so let’s beat Trump and move towards a future where all people can thrive.”
