Voters Can and Must Elect a New Congress This November

Washington, DC – After Trump’s lies about the hurricane death toll in Puerto Rico, Cristina Jimenez, Executive Director of United We Dream Action, issued the following statement:

“Trump lied and tried to erase the 3,000 lives lost in Puerto Rico. His lie is outrageous and offensive to all people, but we can’t only be offended. We must hold him, his administration and Republicans in Congress accountable. Our community can do that by voting and by telling our stories.

“Trump and the Republicans failed Puerto Rico and used $10 million of recovery money to deport immigrants and keep children in cages. They killed the Dream Act and let’s not forget how Republicans in Congress pitted immigrant youth against Puerto Rico recovery funding.

“In 54 days, voters can kick out many of the politicians who failed Puerto Ricans and who threaten immigrants. We can replace them with new champions who will protect our communities.

“That’s why the young people of United We Dream Action in Florida, Texas and elsewhere are going door-to-door, phone banking, running digital ads, reaching voters on social media, whatever it takes to elect a Congress that will stand up to the lies and fight for all of us.”
