Privacy Policy

United We Dream Action (“UWDAA,” “We” or “Us”) works with undocumented immigrants and, therefore, we understand how important it is for you to be able to trust us with your information. Protecting your privacy is extremely important to us. We want you to be comfortable contacting us and using our services.

This Privacy Policy governs the manner in which UWDA collects, uses, maintains and discloses information collected from users (“You” or “Users”) of all of its websites (including, by way of example only, unitedwedreamaction.org, heretostay2020.org, nosquedamos2020.org).

The Types of Information UWDA Collects

Non-personally identifiable device/usage information

UWDA automatically collects non-personally identifiable information about you whenever you visit the Website. Non-personally identifiable information is information that, on its own, cannot be used to identify you. Such information may include your Internet Protocol (IP) address (a number that is automatically assigned by your internet service provider to the computer you used), the type of browser and operating system you used, the date and time you visited the Website, the Internet address of the site from which you linked to the Website, and which pages you viewed on the Website. We use this information for several purposes, such as calculating usage levels, helping diagnose server problems, and administering the Website.

UWDA serves cookies to enhance your experience with the Website. A cookie is a small text file that is stored in your computer so that the Website can recognize you and keep track of your preferences. UWDA also uses cookies to measure aggregate web statistics, such as collecting the number of Users to the Website, the number of repeat Users and the most popular webpages, and for other purposes. You may choose to set your web browser to refuse cookies, or to alert you when cookies are being sent. If you do so, however, some parts of the Website may not function properly.

We may also use tracking pixels (also called web beacons), which are tiny electronic tags with a unique identifier that provide usage information, such as impressions and clicks, to measure the success of our marketing campaigns and to compile statistics about use of the Website and response rates.

UWDA uses Google Analytics to gather web analytical data for us. Information about how Google uses information collected from sites that use its services is located at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You may opt out of participating with Google Analytics by downloading the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, available at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Personally identifiable information

UWDA collects personally identifiable information — data that can be used to uniquely identify you – when you voluntarily provide such information. For example, you may provide us with your name, email address, cell phone number and/or credit card information, when you sign up to join our email or text message lists or when you make a donation online.

To review the personally identifiable information we have about you and to request corrections, send an email to info@uwdaction.org with the subject line PRIVACY.

How UWDA Uses the Information that It Collects

UWDA uses Users’ personal information for the purpose for which it was provided, in other words, to add you to our email or text message lists or to process a donation. We also use this information to better understand how Users use the Website so that we can improve the Website. Furthermore, we may use Users’ personal information to customize content and communications based on individual interests, previous interactions and location.

If you provide UWDA with your email address, you will be added to our email list and you will start receiving email communications from UWDA, unless you opt out. If at any time you wish to stop receiving emails from us, please follow the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email we send you.

If you provide UWDA with your phone number, you consent to receiving phone calls and text messages from UWDA. If you wish to be removed from UWDA’s phone list, reply STOP to any text message from UWDA. We will then send you a message confirming that you have been removed from our text list. Please do not reply to that message, as it may result in your being re-subscribed.

How UWDA Protects User Information

UWDA adopts appropriate data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures to help protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of your personal information, but no data transmission or storage system is guaranteed to be 100% secure.

Sharing Personal Information

UWDA will not disclose your personal information to any third parties absent your explicit consent, except as provided below.

UWDA uses third party service providers to help it operate the Website and to administer activities on its behalf, such as collecting donations online. These third party vendors have access to some User information but they are required to protect the confidentiality of the information and to use it only for the limited purpose for which it was provided.

UWDA shares personal information about Users with its affiliated 501(c)(4) organization called United We Dream Action. United We Dream Network and United We Dream Action are separate legal entities both committed to protecting immigrants to the United States. United We Dream Action may only use the information we share with it for purposes consistent with its mission.

There may be circumstances when we would share personal information with other like-minded organizations, including those organizations with which we may partner on various campaigns. Use of such information by other organizations is governed by the privacy policies of the other organizations.

We often provide opportunities for Users to sign petitions. We may share some Users’ personal information with applicable public officials related to the petitions.

UWDA will use best efforts to avoid having to share any of your personal information if ordered to do so by a court order, subpoena or search warrant, or if otherwise required to do so by law, but UWDA makes no guarantee that its efforts to resist disclosure will be successful. If we ever determine that we need to disclose any of your personally identifiable information to the government, we will use best efforts to notify you in advance.

UWDA may also share personally identifiable information if it believes it is necessary to protect the rights, property, and safety of UWDA or others.

UWDA may share personally identifiable information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing or acquisition of all or a portion of its business to another organization.

UWDA may share generic aggregated information not linked to any personally identifiable information regarding Users with third parties.

Third Party Websites

UWDA provides links from the Website to other websites that are not owned or operated by UWDA. UWDA does not control the content or links that appear on these third party websites and is not responsible for the practices employed by such websites. These websites and services have their own privacy policies. Browsing and interaction on any other website, including websites that have a link to or from the Website, is subject to that website’s own terms and policies. This Privacy Policy covers only information collected through the use of the Website.

Do Not Track Signals

Do Not Track (“DNT”) is a privacy preference that Users can set in certain web browsers. We do not currently respond to DNT signals, as the Internet industry is currently working toward a common approach to responding to DNT.

California Privacy Rights

If you reside in California and have provided your personally identifiable information to UWDA, you may request information once per calendar year about UWDA’s disclosures of certain categories of your personally identifiable information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. Such requests must be submitted to UWDA at info@uwdaction.org with the subject line PRIVACY.

Your continued use of the Website after the Privacy Policy has been modified means that you accept the revised Privacy Policy. UWDA encourages Users to check this page frequently for any changes to stay informed about what information UWDA collects and how it uses that information. You acknowledge and agree that it is your responsibility to review this Privacy Policy periodically and become aware of any modifications since your last visit.
