Washington, D.C. – In response to the violent mob who took over the Capitol in an attempt to subvert the will of millions of voters and delay the certification of the Presidential electors, Greisa Martinez Rosas, Executive Director of United We Dream Action, said:
“Today’s attacks on the U.S. Capitol are part of the continued efforts by violent white supremacists who are desperately trying to undermine the will of the people yet again. Trump and his Republican allies’ lies and disinformation have sustained their refusal of election results. But the truth is that millions of Black, brown and young voters showed up across the country to defeat Trump in November. Again and again, they’ve been met with continuous efforts to suppress their power and their voices. Still, our communities won, and proved that our people power creates lasting change.
We proved our power is undeniable in November and again today, as Black and brown organizers in Georgia helped deliver Democratic control of the Senate. It’s time for Congress to move forward with certifying the election results immediately. Congress must also prioritize the integrity of our democracy by impeaching and removing Trump as well as any Republican Members of Congress who have incited these violent acts. We remain clear-eyed and committed to the long term efforts needed to dismantle the systems of white supremacy and to defund ICE, CBP, and police.”
