Texas – Today, United We Dream Action (UWDA) announced their first candidate endorsement of the 2022 midterm election cycle in support of progressive candidate Greg Casar in Texas’ 35th Congressional District.
Michelle Ming, Political Director of United We Dream Action, said:
“Immigrant youth of United We Dream Action are committed to creating a world where everyone, regardless of immigration status, is free to move, free to stay, and free to thrive. We recognize that in order to achieve that, we need to leverage our power as voters to elect pro-immigrant champions up and down the ballot. That’s why we are excited to endorse Greg Casar, who began his career as a labor and immigrant rights organizer and later served as a member of the Austin City Council for seven years where he established an immigrant legal defense fund.
With the endorsement of Greg Casar, we are redefining what it means to be a pro-immigrant candidate. To be a pro-immigrant champion means having an intersectional understanding of the immigrant experience, beyond words and promises that never come to pass. We need elected officials in Congress like Greg Casar who understand that to be pro-immigrant means fighting furiously for everyone’s right, regardless of immigration status, to migrate and seek asylum and to access health care, in-state tuition, and COVID relief while living without the daily fear of being detained or deported by the racist law enforcement agencies of ICE or CBP. To make this a reality, UWDA plans to reach millions of voters in key elections in Texas and across the country throughout 2022.”
