Washington, D.C.—Across the country we’re seeing attacks on our freedom to move, to learn, to express ourselves, and ultimately to live. With dangerous anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQIA, and pro-gun bills being proposed and becoming law in many states, young people are fed up and demanding change. Last week, immigrant youth and allies came together to hold their elected officials accountable to create an inclusive and welcoming future for all. United We Dream Action (UWDA) Squad volunteers participated in the Our States, Our Power Week of Action with events to push back against the harmful attacks on immigrant and LGBTQIA+ populations.
United We Dream SQUAD volunteers at a letter drop off event for the Our States, Our Power Week of Action in Corona, CA.
In Corona, CA, UWDA SQUAD volunteers dropped a letter of demands to Representative Ken Calvert’s (R-CA) office. In Cleveland, OH, UWDA SQUAD volunteers hosted a rally to unapologetically declare that young people, immigrants, LGBTQ people are Here to Stay! In Bridgeport, CT, UWD SQUAD volunteers hosted an office visit to both discuss important issues affecting their communities and drop off a community letter. In all, UWDA Squad leaders held over ten events in states like Arizona, California, Connecticut and Ohio to make it clear that we are here to stay, here to fight, and here to win.
