Texas – Yesterday, Governor Greg Abbott announced his intent to defy a SCOTUS ruling requiring Texas to remove razor wire barriers used to harm immigrants at the U.S.-Mexico border. These razor wire barriers were installed by Gov. Abbott with the intent to severely hurt and even kill migrants seeking asylum at the border. Gov. Abbott’s announcement follows reports that he has only increased the presence of Texas troops and the razor wire barriers at the border since the SCOTUS decision was issued.
Since Gov. Abbott erected his deadly razor wire buoys in Rio Grande six months ago, immigrant youth of United We Dream Action have called on Texas elected officials to impeach Governor Abbott for human rights abuses at the border and gross negligence of his responsibilities as Texas Governor.

“The continuous political and deadly stunts by TX Gov. Greg Abbott must end once and for all! He has shown time and again that he is unfit for his role, and has misused and abused power and money to infringe on our freedoms. From his gross negligence in addressing the Covid-19 pandemic and the winter freezes that have led to the deaths of Texans, to calling on multiple special sessions of the Texas Legislature to pass anti-people policies, to now defying federal statute and a Supreme Court ruling, Gov. Abbott will stop at nothing to push for his personal, anti-immigrant, white supremacist agenda.
United We Dream has previously called for the impeachment of Governor Abbott for his misuse of taxpayer dollars to sow violence at the border and now adds his defiance of human rights laws at the border as additional grounds for impeachment.”
