WASHINGTON, D.C. —At yesterday’s State of the Union address, MAGA Republicans, including Marjorie Taylor Greene, escalated their anti-immigrant, racist, and xenophobic political theater that has fueled deadly violence and policies against our communities nationwide. MAGA Republicans continued to make it abundantly clear that their strategy will always be to back Trump at all costs. They are ready to usher in a slew of anti-immigrant inhumane policies if Trump were to have a second term in office.
Bruna Sollod, Senior Political Director of United We Dream Action, said:
“Anti-immigrant white supremacists like Marjorie Taylor Greene and her Freedom Caucus allies represent the worst this country has to offer. They will always back Trump and peddle the most egregious and violent anti-immigrant language and policies. These are the same policies and vitriol-filled statements which have already emboldened white supremacist violence as we saw in El Paso to Texas and Buffalo, New York. At last night’s State of the Union, Marjorie Taylor Green and other MAGA Republicans chose to exploit the tragedy of Laken Riley’s death and the grief her loved ones are feeling to advance their dangerous white nationalist and political agenda. They used her story, seeking to dehumanize entire communities of immigrants with policies that are unrelated to justice. Exploiting any tragedy like this is beyond cruel.
If MAGA politicians truly cared about the border, they would listen to what the overwhelming majority of people in this country desire: humane pathways for migration and asylum, and citizenship for those who call this country home. Let’s be clear: MAGA Republicans’ dangerous, white supremacist rhetoric poses an existential threat to the lives of immigrants and black and brown people in this country. We cannot afford to lose this country and ourselves to the white nationalist playbook, nor can we normalize the racist discrimination, inhumane surveillance, racial profiling, harassment, and detention that our loved ones experience in places like Texas and Florida.”
